Jason's academic research centers around the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and its ancient Near Eastern Context. His primary advisor is Christopher B. Hays, and his secondary dissertation advisor is Christoph Uehlinger, at the University of Zurich. He has also studied under John Goldingay, Leslie Allen, and David W. Baker, and has worked on sections of his dissertation with Jeffrey Zorn, and Kristine Garroway.

He is trained to teach a broad range of topics related to the Old Testament, and has previously taught Old Testament Introduction; Ancient Near Eastern History, Literature, and Culture; Biblical Hebrew; and Hebrew Exegesis of Ecclesiastes.
